Many of the patients and families in the single ventricle community look for ways to raise awareness and make a difference for single ventricle heart disease. It gives us a sense of hope, a way to give back, and a feeling of control in what can otherwise feel a powerless situation. There are many ways that patients and families choose to do so. One powerful way to make a big impact is by hosting a fundraiser for Sisters by Heart. There are so many creative and wonderful ways to raise money!
Several years ago, one of our Board members asked family and friends to help her raise $2,121.21 in honor of her HLHS son’s 21st birthday by sponsoring her in a 21 mile solo walk (she was successful in both the fundraising and the walk!). We have a former Board member who generously asks her family and friends to purchase items for our newborn care packages in memory of her daughter. We have folks donate proceeds from jewelry sales and makeup parties, and we have had so many who have hosted Facebook fundraisers. There are lots of great options – and we are happy to help you think them through if you’d like!
Because Facebook fundraisers are both easy to do and a consistent source of revenue for Sisters by Heart, here is a reminder of the 5 easy steps to do it yourself:
Click Fundraisers in the left menu of your News Feed. You may need to click See More.
Click on Select a Nonprofit and choose Sisters by Heart.
In the left menu, you can customize your goal amount and the text to be displayed.
Click on Create.
And watch the money come in!
